Hydraulophone Fountain
A kind of a musical fountain is the hydraulophone fountain that is found in Ontario Science Centre. This fountain creates music as you cover the holes in it, each hole has different sound and if played well, it will create music. The fountain or what other people call a “funtain” is really cool, I mean it is fun to play; it is fun to watch with your friends and family. The fountain keyboard actually consist and was made out of a stainless steel that is type 316, this material is also used in making surgical instruments. The parts are all in good condition. Every key in the keyboard is actually a water jet that has the capability in cleansing itself with the use of the use of water that flows through it. The musical expression that it can produce gives a wider range compared to a wooden or a plastic key.
This fountain or “FUNtain” is actually Teluscape’s centrepiece. Telescupe is the playground or an outdoor park that was built /on the original fountains’ site in front of the Ontario Science Centre. Actually, the main focus on Teluscape is the pipe organ that has circular shape and consisting 2 organs. Each of those 2 organs is a hydraulophone that is semi circular in shape. The 2 ranks of pipes (organ pipes) that are visible are arranged well in a bigger circle surrounding the hydraulophone. This fountain or “funtain” creates sound that is good to the ears and also it drives the organ pipes by way of its hydraulic action.
As the wooden or the plastic hydraulophone do, hydraulophone fountain creates or produces sound when you cover the water jets, while the water goes out in North Pool of the pipe, then the water that comes out in the North pool of the pipe will cascade down to the pool side and will go back again to the base as they take their turns.
