Fountain as Art

Fountain was derived from a Latin word “fontis” or “fon”, this kind of water feature is an architectural piece that jets the water in the air for it to have a dramatic and decorative effect before it pours the water down to the basin. Actually, in bigger cities, it is one source of drinkable water, most especially in the parks, business areas, malls, hotels and etc.

The function of a fountain is really helpful to the people who are always on the go. And fountains are also used as an irrigation canals in most of the gardens all over the world. Though fountains in big cities are some sort of thirst quencher, and is used to supply water in the garden, the function of it in Persia and in the ancient Rome is some kind of a decorative material that is used by the people to beautify the place particularly in courtyards or in the garden.

The fountain’s art reached the top in 14th century in Moorish, Spain’s fountains of the palaces, in the 15th -16th century, and the height of the fountain’s popularity reached its peak in the Italian Renaissance Garden. As well as the fountains in the 17th century in the Gardens of Versailles. And also, Rome’s fountains which are really decorative caught the eyes of many people in the 17th and in 18th century. There are 2 kinds of fountains, wall fountains, and the fountain that is free standing. The flow of the water from a fountain may vary on its design; say for example, the wall fountain’s flow of water is different from that of the free standing fountain; also, the basin that catches the water has an additional effect to the flow
